Embedded Number Case Studies

An embedded approach to teaching literacy and numeracy requires workplaces and tutors to identify and exploit opportunities for building learners' literacy and numeracy skills within their vocational context.

This section contains case studies of activities and teaching strategies for developing learners' numeracy strategies in a vocational context.

Case Study: The Wairoa Waikaremoana Māori Trust Board

Tutors at the Wairoa Waikaremoana Maori Trust Board run follow-up numeracy sessions for their learners after each professional development workshop. This helps them to practice the teaching ideas and improves their learners' numeracy all at the same time!

Case Study: Fingers. An Adding Game

This activity was used with tutors whose learners are at Step 1 and Step 2 in the Additive Progression. The results were interesting.

Case Study: Multiplication Practice: Move it! Move it!

Do you want to get your students moving and thinking about multiples and factors? Try this activity, which is suitable for all learners.
