Case Study: Teaching Speaking and Listening Skills

Damon is a literacy and numeracy tutor with the Apostolic Training Centre (ATC) in Hamilton. He runs regular, short workshops for tutors to enhance their delivery of literacy and numeracy. This case study documents a workshop for trades and alternative education tutors on speaking and listening.

This case study illustrates that by fully informing learners about the purpose of an assessment, and making time to discuss their results with them afterwards, we give learners the power to help themselves achieve their learning goals.


Case Study: Engaging Māori men in literacy and numeracy

Matua Parkinson commonly known as ‘Mutzy’ on the Māori television programme ‘Code’, has recently been working with the Ako Tuapapa (embedded literacy and numeracy) team at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi. Matua has teamed up with Makuini Hohapata, Mereana Parkinson and Mei Winitana (Ako Tuapapa advisors) to co-facilitate teaching of theory with the BCATS (Building, Carpentry and Associated Trades Services) tauira (learners) to trial re-developed embedded teaching and learning resources.


Case Study: Using Workplace Resources to Develop Literacy and Numeracy Skills

During the 2010 year ATC Professional worked with several engineering companies to increase internal capability through improved literacy and numeracy.
