Induction Workshops
Audience: New tutors (at PTEs, ITPs and Wānanga) who teach NZQF Level 1-3 programmes involving embedded literacy and numeracy.
Description: This interactive, one-day workshop will introduce you to tools and resources which will be useful in your teaching practice. The workshop includes practical activities, teaching tips and the background information you need to start you on the road of becoming an informed practitioner.
The content includes interpreting the Assessment Tool results to inform your teaching practice, the Learning Progressions to support your embedded literacy and numeracy teaching practice, Pathways Awarua to provide ongoing, self-directed literacy and numeracy upskilling and website content to guide and support your work. Pulling all this together through a scenario approach will give you hands-on experience.
If you are a new tutor and you ask yourself the following questions then this workshop is for you:
-
Where do I start?
-
What do my students need help with?
-
What do I need to do to assist them?
-
What resources are available?
-
Where do I go for help?
-
How do I keep up-to-date?
Intended outcomes:
-
Improved understanding of how to embed literacy and numeracy
-
Enhanced awareness and understanding of the adult literacy and numeracy infrastructure, including the Learning Progressions, the Assessment Tool and Pathways Awarua.
