Successful learners supported with embedded literacy
|
It’s presentation day for these Trade Skills Foundation Course participants at Whitireia Community Polytechnic – it marks the end of a significant learning journey for all of them, a journey shaped by their tutors to ensure they can confidently transfer their new-found literacy and numeracy skills.
Strategies demonstrated are writing frames, skimming, scanning, glossaries, presentation skills and tapping into prior knowledge.
Key Content
Over the course of a year, deliberate introduction and use of literacy strategies such as establishing a purpose, tapping into prior knowledge, skimming, scanning, compiling glossaries, using a writing frame, and practicing presentation skills have contributed to this final assessment task. During this presentation, students reflect on their learning journey, talk about their goals and aspirations, and share a slice of knowledge in a mini-teach.
