Between crisis rhetoric and workplace realities: Stephen Black - Part 2
|
Stephen Black, senior researcher at the Centre for Research in Learning and Change, University of Technology, Sydney begins with an outline of the familiar ‘crisis’ discourse on the role of literacy and numeracy in workplaces. Such a discourse, however, represents only some voices, the dominant voices of industry and employer groups. Other voices are absent – those of the workers. This presentation suggests that there is a contradiction between the dominant crisis rhetoric and the realities of literacy and numeracy practices in workplaces as determined by on-the-production floor observations and the viewpoints of workers. His presentation has been split into five videos.
