Literacy ideas involved

Damon has promoted ideas about critical literacy. The task of restating the ideas requires a learner to analyse the ideas and language of another person, to think about the underlying meanings in the words and expressions used and to apply vocabulary, sentence structures and organise information in representing the meaning in another way. Refer to the Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy (Speaking and Listening) for more detail.

Teaching ideas involved

Learning to speak and listen requires speaking and listening. Speaking is productive and listening is receptive. In teacher-centred situations it is often the teacher doing the talking and the learners doing the listening. By putting learners in the situation that demanded them to speak and to listen Damon has promoted engagement with both production and reception.
