4. Example of a lesson – “Oven temperature conversion”

The formula in this example may not be one that you will ever have to use or teach, but illustrates the concept of deriving the formula so you can check the reasonableness of your answers when using it.
This approach can be applied to many formulae. Other examples of relations you might use are given at the end of this unit.
Two systems for measuring temperatures are used for everyday temperature contexts, the metric Celsius scale and the imperial Fahrenheit scale.
Note: many science and engineering contexts use the SI unit for temperature: degrees Kelvin. For this example, we will stay with everyday contexts like the weather and setting temperatures on ovens.
