It’s important that learners can engage with writing tasks – that they are realistic. Sometimes this just means a slight tweak, for example:
NOT
- Imagine you are a news reporter writing on the latest floods in your area.
BUT
- Write to the local weather office for an explanation about the recent spates of heavy rain that have caused flooding in your area.
