Motivation is a critical factor in how well we do anything. Writing, and working to improve our writing, is no different.

Learners are motivated to write when they:

  • understand the purpose for writing something
  • see themselves as writers

Learners are motivated to improve their writing when they:

  • understand their learning goals and
  • recognise the progress they’re making towards those goals.

They can take charge of their learning when they understand what has helped them make this progress.
