13. Try this out: develop a learner profile

  • Have a go at developing one or two learner profiles and share them with the learners.
  • Focus on the strengths they have and reinforce that together you will address the ‘areas to work on’.
  • Discuss the next step for their learning, from the ‘areas to work on,’ and the appropriate progression.
  • Ask the learners if they agree with the profiles, or if they think there is something else to add.

Keep the profiles in a folder and update them several times over a semester. This is especially useful for seeing how much progress learners are making.


  • Develop a learner profile for other learners in your group..
    Discuss the profiles with each of them and share next steps.
    Help learners set their own goals based on their next steps in relation to the relevant progression.
