  • When you have mapped your learner’s current writing knowledge and skills, and the writing knowledge and skills they will need in order to meet the demands you’ve identified, you will be able to plan their next learning steps.
  • The writing tasks in the Assessment Tool enable you to gather and analyse information about your learners’ writing knowledge and skills. They can be used with all learners except those whose writing is still at the initial steps described in Starting Points: Supporting the Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy. For learners whose writing is best described in Starting Points it will be more appropriate to probe these learners’ strengths and weaknesses using the Writing Investigations tasks.
