Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) recently undertook a project to explore how to better engage Māori and Pasifika learners. This webinar will outline some of the project methodology and findings, including:

  • outline the purpose and aims of the project – to inform the changes needed by NMIT to engage Maori & Pasifika learners,
  • highlight Te Tau Ihu o Te Waka A Maui – the necessary inclusion of Maori / Pasifika across the Top of the South and how we did that,
  • discuss the methodology used to ‘gather stories’,
  • suggest key findings and conclusions from both students and staff,
  • outline some recommendations for moving forward.

Carole Crawford and Paula Te Amo

Carole is the Learner Journey Manager at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology where she is leading change across the whole organisation. Carole is joined for this webinar presentation by Paula Te Amo, the project researcher.

Carole has over 23 years teaching/managing experience in the tertiary sector. Her current responsibilities include; leading and implementing new learner journey initiatives, providing learner journey professional development for tutors & staff, leading member of NMIT Teaching and Learning Observation Team, responsible for NMIT’s capability plan regarding embedding literacy & numeracy and Manager of Learning & Study Support team.
