Finally, Damon brings the tutors back to the Literacy Learning Progressions. On the whiteboard he has drawn this diagram.

He points out that using the picture as a starter means that all learners can get involved. The tutors are reminded that the learning progressions provide a framework for thinking about how learners are doing with speaking and listening. By getting them to clarify ideas and think critically we are helping them to progress through the steps in the progressions.
