On a recent visit to Balclutha, where I was running a series of numeracy workshops. I was fortunate to meet a local farming identity, Ken Payne.

In the course of our discussions he mentioned a new innovation that was taking Otago and Southland farmers by storm.

After much persuading he invited me to observe the ‘Speights Stubby Grassometer’ put through its paces.
