Text type (genre)
|
A particular kind of text, with particular conventions and generic patterns linked to the purpose of the text. The patterning may show itself in the overall structure of the text and in the ideas and language features. For example, if a writer’s purpose is to recount something that happened in the past, we can anticipate that they will cover a series of events in chronological order. Written texts may consist of more than one text type, for example, a text about the sport of rugby may include both a report explaining the sport and a recount of a particular game.
